Cannes has menus that speak gluten-free, and kitchens that are not. Of the 7 verified addresses in our database, none is a dedicated kitchen: all of them work with wheat flour. What sets the city apart is the gestures: a crêperie with separate griddles, an ice cream shop that keeps an allergen binder, a beach club where the waiter goes and checks with the kitchen. These are precautions, not guarantees. You announce your celiac disease everywhere, and you ask about the preparation.
The city in numbers
Pizza and crêpes
- Bella Storia, rue Félix Faure, is the Italian where every pizza on the menu can be made gluten-free, for a few euros extra, with gluten-free pasta, risottos and desserts on top. Two French gluten-free references, Because Gus and Resto Sans Gluten, describe a light, well-handled dough. The oven and the kitchen are still shared with wheat flour: say you are celiac when booking.
- L’ Atelier Artisan Crepier, allées de la Liberté near the old port: the menu lists allergens in French and English and flags the gluten-free galettes. Every crêpe can be prepared gluten-free and, according to several reviews, the team uses separate griddles. One filling contains gluten: check it. This is the best-equipped crêperie in town, without being dedicated.
- Crêperie Bretonne La Bigoudène, rue Meynadier: buckwheat galettes and crêpes made to order, fillings prepared the same day, sweet crêpes available gluten-free on request. The kitchen also works with wheat flour and no separate griddle is reported: speak up when ordering.
The tables that flag their dishes
- Rado Beach Helen, a private beach club on the Croisette between the Carlton and the Martinez, run by the same family since 1958. The menu, Mediterranean and fish-led, carries a gluten-free symbol on many dishes, and the staff will go and check with the kitchen — for a Caesar without croutons, for instance. Mixed kitchen: speak up as you sit down.
- Le Cirque, rue Hoche, a French bistro with the kitchen open through the day from noon to 10:30 pm. Gluten-free dishes are flagged on the menu, alongside the vegetarian options. The kitchen is not dedicated, and our sources say nothing about the fryer: ask whether the one used for chips is shared.
- Rosana Cannes, rue des Belges, a Californian-spirited address open from morning to evening, a fusion sharing menu with gluten-free dishes identified, vegan options, and a much-mentioned poke bowl. Mixed kitchen: state your diet when ordering.
The ice cream shop
Gelato Junkie, rue Félix Faure, makes its ice cream in-house with fresh produce and keeps an allergen binder the team will consult on request. Many flavours are gluten-free and the scoops are changed. There is no gluten-free cone, and the wheat wafers are on the counter: ask for your ice cream in a cup.
Our tips on site
- Say “je suis cœliaque” (“I have celiac disease”): in a city with no dedicated kitchen, that is the word that moves things from “we have gluten-free” to “we prepare it separately”. The answer tells you about the team.
- Ask about the equipment, not just the ingredient: the griddle in a crêperie, the oven in a pizzeria, the fryer in a bistro, the scoop at the ice cream shop. That is what separates the addresses on this list. Cross-contamination explains why.
- Everything is walkable around rue Félix Faure and the old port, except the beach club, on the Croisette.
- No dedicated bakery in our database in Cannes: plan for bread. The rest of the Côte d’Azur, including Nice and its single dedicated address, is in our guide to gluten-free holidays in France.
