Málaga long had a reputation for sending coeliacs home hungry: frying everywhere, flour everywhere. That is no longer true. Our database counts 9 verified addresses, 7 of them fully dedicated — places where wheat flour never enters. And the change is not marginal: Málaga’s gluten-free scene has gone after the two dishes that are hardest to make safe, fried fish and gelato in a cone. The city also has a local network, the Red Málaga Sin Gluten, run by the ACEMA association, which trains both kitchen and floor staff.
What the city holds
Pescaíto frito, at last
This is the dish every coeliac watches go past untouched: Andalusian fried fish is dusted in wheat flour, then dropped into oil that has already served everything else. Los Mellizos Soho (more than 2,600 reviews) settled the matter by turning its entire menu gluten-free: fried fish, shellfish, bread, fish and chips, under a strict anti-cross-contamination protocol. The seafood house sits on Calle Tomás Heredia, in the artsy Soho district — a quarter of an hour on foot from the historic centre.
The historic centre is walkable
Four dedicated addresses sit within a few blocks of each other. The Glutenfree Company (4.8★), on Calle Mariblanca, is a fully dedicated café-restaurant: croquetas, toasts, apple crumble, in a room open Wednesday to Sunday — check the days before you walk over. On Calle Carretería, Limò (4.6★) is the Costa del Sol’s first 100% gluten-free Italian restaurant, opened in late 2025: fresh pasta, pinsa and ravioli made without cross-contamination. And on Calle Granada, Carbone Spritz Bar solves the aperitivo — a tapas and spritz bar that is entirely gluten-free, which for a coeliac on holiday changes the whole evening.
A gelato shop that thought about the cone
Ice cream is a classic trap: even when the flavour is safe, the cone is wheat and the scoop travels from tub to tub. YUMMY heladería (4.6★, more than 1,600 reviews), on Calle Molina Lario beside the cathedral, was Málaga’s first 100% gluten-free address, opened in 2017: artisan gelato, cones included, alongside pastries, brioches and pizzas, with plenty of vegan options. One useful clarification: another business of the same name exists around Benalmádena and Torremolinos — it is not the same place.
Two workshops for the sweet side
Despacho de Sabores holds the perfect score of our selection (5★, 215 reviews): an artisan patisserie with its own obrador, entirely gluten-free, known for made-to-order cakes, brownies and Dubai cookies. And El pastelero Real (4.5★), on Pasaje San Fernando, turns out gluten-free cakes, doughnuts, breads, cookies and croissants, with a second café-churrería under the same name.
Two gluten-free menus, but mixed kitchens
They deserve to be named for what they are, and no more. La Plancha Taberna (4.6★), on Calle Héroe de Sostoa, is a traditional tavern certified by the Red Málaga Sin Gluten and ACEMA, with a fully adapted tapas menu — but the kitchen remains mixed: wheat dishes, airborne flour, shared utensils. REVIV CAFÉ (4.8★) uses «sin gluten» as a menu tag with no claim of exclusivity, and a severe coeliac has reported bread containing wheat. We classify it as a gluten-free menu, not a dedicated venue.
Our tips on the ground
- The phrase to know: «Soy celíaco / celíaca — ¿esto lleva gluten?» And in front of anything fried: «¿la freidora es solo sin gluten?»
- The associations: nationally, FACE (Federación de Asociaciones de Celíacos de España) issues the «Controlado por FACE» control mark; locally it is ACEMA and its Red Málaga Sin Gluten that train venues. None of our nine Málaga addresses currently carries FACE certification itself.
- Stay in the historic centre: Mariblanca, Molina Lario, Carretería and Granada are all within a short walk; the Soho is a quarter of an hour away.
- Churros are never safe by default: the batter is wheat flour and the oil is shared. Look for a dedicated churrería rather than an adaptation.
Explore the 9 addresses
Every address cited has been verified at source: existence, gluten-free level, contamination risks. All 9 are on the Nutrixe map — and if your Málaga favourite is missing, suggest it. All our verified gluten-free addresses in Málaga are gathered on a single page. Before you go, our guide to cross-contamination explains what to ask at the table.
