Vigo comes down to four solid addresses and one caveat. Of the 5 verified addresses in our database, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens — a restaurant, two bakeries and a FACE-certified ice cream shop. The fifth sells fries while advertising gluten-free, and that’s precisely the case that needs an explanation.

The four dedicated addresses

Alium | Restaurante Gluten Free, rúa do Ecuador, is the city’s real sit-down meal: a 100% gluten-free restaurant, with vegan, vegetarian and dairy-free options, where the entire menu — dishes, desserts and breads included — is designed for a cross-contamination-free environment. The house’s website says so plainly (“¡Somos 100% sin gluten!” — “We are 100% gluten-free!”) and details its allergen control measures.

Celidulce, also on rúa do Ecuador, is an entirely gluten-free bakery: bread, pastries, sweet and savory Galician empanadas, custom cakes. The message displayed is categorical — everything found there suits celiacs, without exception.

Pan Para Todos, rúa Manolo Martínez, is Vigo’s first bakery specializing in gluten-free, accredited since 2015 by ACEGA, the Galician celiac association. Breads, pastries, empanadillas and artisan pizzas, with home delivery.

DESSEO | Helado Artesano Gallego, on Praza Porta do Sol, is an artisan ice cream shop whose entire range is gluten-free and FACE-certified — ice cream, but also cones, wafers and cookies, exactly what usually makes an ice cream shop unworkable for a celiac.

The food truck worth reading closely

EL PATATERO, rúa Cánovas del Castillo, serves fresh Belgian-style fries and promotes “sin gluten” potatoes as its main selling point. But nothing indicates a dedicated fryer or kitchen: the website describes a professional fryer without specifying whether it’s reserved for gluten-free. Lacking that detail, we classified it under gluten-free options, with two flagged risks: cross-contamination and a shared fryer. If you’re a strict celiac, this isn’t an address for you; if you go anyway, ask about the fryer before ordering.

Our tips on site

  • Say “Soy celíaco” or “Soy celíaca,” rather than “sin gluten”: it’s the word that changes how the kitchen handles your order.
  • Look for the FACE logo. The Spanish federation of celiac associations certifies DESSEO; in Galicia, ACEGA plays the same regional role and has accredited Pan Para Todos since 2015.
  • Rúa do Ecuador holds two addresses. Alium and Celidulce are both there: a meal and a bakery on the same street is the only usable proximity in the city.
  • Continuing in Spain? Our guide to gluten-free travel in Spain covers the rest of the country, and AFDIAG, AIC, FACE certifications says what each label guarantees.
