Kraków fits in a pocket handkerchief, and that is good news. Our database counts 6 verified addresses, all fully dedicated — places where wheat flour never enters — and five of them are within walking distance of the Stare Miasto. Poland is backed here by a solid national body, the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej, which audits venues under the « Menu Bez Glutenu » label and runs the crossed grain symbol («Przekreślony Kłos») for packaged food; three of our six Kraków addresses carry that label. One thing to know before you plan: four of the six are bakeries or patisseries. Kraków is a city where gluten-free bread is easier to find than dinner.

The one full meal, a stone’s throw from Wawel

The zapiekanka — a baguette half grilled with mushrooms and cheese — is the emblem of Kraków street food, and by definition it is off limits to coeliacs. Zapiekane gluten free bistro (4.8★, more than 700 reviews) made that its name and its programme: on Koletek street, at the foot of Wawel, this entirely gluten-free bistro is certified by the Polish coeliac association. Zapiekanki, pizza, pierogi, hot dogs and desserts, with vegetarian, vegan and lactose-free options — it is the only address in our Kraków selection where you sit down to a real meal, and the only place to taste the Polish classics with no second thoughts. One practical note: the venue has moved to a takeaway and standing format, which changes nothing about its 100% gluten-free status.

Four bakeries, four registers

On Józefa Dietla street, at the edge of Kazimierz, Bez | Piekarnia Bezglutenowa (4.3★) is the only 100% gluten-free bakery in Kraków that makes traditional bread: loaves, rolls, bagels and pastries baked daily, without gluten, lactose or preservatives. It carries the Menu Bez Glutenu label. This is the everyday bread address, the one to locate on arrival.

On Karmelicka street, Ciacho bez Cukru (4.5★, more than 500 reviews) is the Kraków branch of the chain of the same name, also Menu Bez Glutenu certified: desserts without white sugar, gluten or lactose, in vegan, high-protein and keto versions.

Beware the mix-up, which is easy to make and does matter: on Zwierzyniecka street, Ciacho bezglutenowe i bez dodatku cukru (5.0★, the city’s highest rating) carries an almost identical name but has no connection to the chain. It is an independent house run by a couple of bakers with more than thirty years behind them, exclusively gluten-free for the past fifteen: waffles, cheesecakes, cookies, tarts and meringues, with no wheat and no added sugar. Two different businesses at two different addresses — check the street before crossing town.

Finally, on Szlak street, WOLNA - piekarnia bezglutenowa (4.8★) is the recently opened Kraków branch of the WOLNA network born in Poznań: bread, pastries and pierogi made in a gluten-free workshop. Its youth is also its limit — it still has only a handful of reviews, and we found no third-party certification for this particular shop. The network is a Polish benchmark; this address remains to be confirmed on the spot.

A patisserie across the Vistula

In Podgórze, on Limanowskiego street, SALMA Cukiernia Bezglutenowa (4.8★) is a gluten-free, sugar-free and casein-free patisserie with keto and vegan options, delivered across the city. The name announces a gluten-free specialisation and our checks support it, but no third-party certification was found: if you are strict, ask how the flours are kept apart before ordering.

Our tips on the ground

  • The phrase to know: « Mam celiakię — czy to zawiera gluten? » On a menu, the word to look for is bezglutenowy.
  • Look for the Menu Bez Glutenu label: the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej audits venues one by one; three of our six Kraków addresses carry it. On packaged food, look for the crossed grain symbol, the Przekreślony Kłos.
  • Everything sits around the Planty: Koletek, Dietla, Karmelicka, Szlak, Zwierzyniecka — five of the six addresses link up on foot around the Old Town.
  • Plan dinner ahead: with a single dedicated bistro, a stay of several days takes some forethought — leave a bakery with bread and build the rest around it.
