Indianapolis is a rare case in our database: of the 5 verified addresses in the city, 5 are fully dedicated kitchens — no wheat flour on site. No mixed table to negotiate, then, but two nuances that matter: only one of the five still carries a cross-contamination caveat, and another works with oats, which isn’t the same thing as “gluten-free.”
The city in numbers
Two real meals
Azucar Morena, at 906 Carrollton Avenue, serves fully gluten-free Venezuelan cuisine: arepas, cachapas, empanadas and patacones, all corn-based, filled with meats, cheeses and vegetables. The 100% gluten-free status is documented by Find Me Gluten Free and by feedback from celiac customers who had no reaction. It’s also the only one of the five whose listing still carries a cross-contamination marker: the establishment sits inside a shared food hall with other vendors, so announce yourself when ordering.
BIBIBOP Asian Grill, on East 82nd Street, is the quick-lunch solution: a chain of customizable Asian bowls whose entire menu is certified gluten-free by the Gluten Intolerance Group, under the “Validated Gluten-Free Safe Spot” label. It’s not a special-occasion dinner, it’s a place where you can eat fast without asking three questions.
Bread, breakfast and pastry
Native Bread, 9546 Allisonville Road, is a woman-owned artisanal bakery: sourdough breads and pastries that are 100% gluten-free, and free of the nine major allergens — no dairy, no eggs, no nuts. The official site, Find Me Gluten Free and Yelp all say the same thing: a dedicated establishment.
Fire & Ice Café, opened in 2024 on the same Allisonville Road, at 6211, is a 100% gluten-free café run by Lara Cooney, who also excludes seven of the nine major allergens. Homemade cookies and breads, pancakes, a German-inspired Quiche Stack, a reading corner. Verified by a WISH-TV report, Find Me Gluten Free, Yelp and Tripadvisor.
The caveat to know
Twenty Two Juice Bar, also inside the Garage Food Hall (906 Carrollton Avenue), has been making cold-pressed juices, shots, smoothies and açaí bowls since 2013. Several directories classify it as “dedicated.” But oats are on the menu: outside a certified supply chain, oats are very often contaminated with wheat, and some celiacs tolerate them poorly even certified. It’s the only one of the five addresses we don’t recommend without reservation to a strict celiac — ask where the oats come from before ordering a bowl.
Our on-site tips
- Say “I have celiac disease,” not “I’m gluten-free.” The first is a disease, the second passes for a preference. Follow up with “Is the kitchen fully dedicated?”
- Look for the GIG logo. The Gluten Intolerance Group certifies entire restaurants, with a 20 ppm threshold; BIBIBOP is one of them. In the United States, it’s the most reliable landmark, alongside Beyond Celiac for general information.
- Allisonville Road makes almost a route of its own. Fire & Ice and Native Bread sit on the same road to the northeast; Azucar Morena and Twenty Two Juice Bar share an address in the center.
