Houston is immense, and its gluten-free addresses are in its image: spread out. But of the 6 verified addresses in our database, 5 are fully dedicated kitchens — and one of them pushes the logic further than almost any address in our database, eliminating gluten, dairy, eggs, soy and tree nuts all at once.

The two dedicated bakeries

Awesome Bites Co., at 2313 Edwards Street in the First Ward, presents itself as the country’s first artisan bakery and ice cream shop fully adapted to allergies: everything is gluten-free, vegan, and free of dairy, eggs, soy and tree nuts. Born in 2015 from its founder’s personal story, the shop is known for its fruit-and-vegetable “Super Muffins”. The official website and a Houston Texans article confirm it. For anyone juggling restrictions, it is a rare address.

Leven Bakery & Cafe, at 4191 Bellaire Boulevard, is a fully gluten-free bakery-café open all day: breads, sandwiches, salads, roast chicken and pastries, designed to eliminate any risk of cross-contamination. Confirmed dedicated by the official website, the local press (Jewish Herald-Voice) and Houston Dine — a fixture for the city’s coeliac community.

An organic café, a Tibetan-inspired vegan

Green Fork & Straw, at 3601 Westheimer Road, is a fully dedicated café-restaurant — “all made in a 100% gluten-free kitchen”, says its website — under the banner “Fresh. Organic. Gluten-Free.”. Fresh, organic ingredients, a dedicated kitchen: the place for a lunch without questions.

mantra, at 4104 Fannin Street, is a vegan and 100% gluten-free restaurant with a Tibetan-inspired atmosphere: yucca fries, plantain nachos, plant-based dishes. Yelp and the official website confirm.

The lab-tested chain

Snap Kitchen, at 250 West 20th Street, is a healthy take-out meal brand whose entire menu is gluten-free, soy-free and free of artificial preservatives — and whose dishes, prepared daily, are lab-tested to verify the absence of traces. The official website confirms it for all locations. Our listing nonetheless keeps a “cross-contamination” flag: it is a chain, and we could not verify this specific outlet’s protocol. Lab tests are reassuring; they do not replace a question on site.

The fast-casual with an identified menu

Honest Mary’s, at 2047 West Gray Street in River Oaks, is a fast-casual where you build your bowl. A large part of the menu is marked “GF” — signature bowls, bases, kids’ menu, desserts, drinks — but it is not an entirely gluten-free establishment: the website refers to a separate allergen sheet, details no anti-contamination protocol, and also serves ingredients not listed GF. A good option if you tolerate traces; not a dedicated kitchen.

Our tips on site

  • “I have celiac disease”, not “I’m gluten-free”. The first triggers real precautions; the second is understood as a diet. Then: “Is the kitchen fully dedicated?”
  • Plan on driving. None of our six addresses is within walking distance of another: First Ward, Westheimer, Bellaire, Fannin, 20th Street, River Oaks. That’s Houston.
  • Awesome Bites for multiple allergies, Leven for bread, Green Fork for lunch, mantra for a vegan dinner: four addresses, four uses.
  • Continuing in Texas? Our guides to Austin and San Antonio are a few hours’ drive away, and cross-contamination explains why a “GF” menu in a mixed kitchen remains a gamble.
