Provo is a straightforward city for a celiac: of the 4 verified addresses, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens. No mixed table, no “adapted” menu to discuss. A bakery, a fried-chicken specialist, a fast-casual spot and a brunch restaurant — precisely the four categories a celiac usually avoids: the display case, the fryer, the quick-service counter, and pancakes.
The city in numbers
Fried and fast
Chicken Boy, 1195 North Canyon Road, serves crispy chicken tenders and nuggets fried in beef tallow, on a menu that’s entirely gluten-free and dairy-free. Born as a food truck, the business opened a brick-and-mortar location in 2025. It’s the most unusual address on the list: elsewhere, a shared fryer alone is enough to rule out anything breaded. Dedicated status confirmed by Find Me Gluten Free, Yelp and the Eat Utah newsletter.
Konala, 210 West Cougar Boulevard, near BYU, is a fast-casual chain where every dish without exception is gluten-free: protein bowls, salads and to-go bowls, available inside or at the drive-thru, made without a fryer — removing the main vector of cross-contamination. Find Me Gluten Free, the official website (“Every menu item is 100% gluten free”), Yelp and several press articles covering the opening confirm.
Sweets: bakery and brunch
Ambrosial Bakery, 275-B East 300 South, is a 100% gluten-free bakery: breads, pastries and cakes, the whole range designed gluten-free from the start, as its official website states — “we did it all while being 100% gluten free.” It’s the only place in the city where you can take anything from the display case without reading a label.
Locals Brunch House, 296 North University Avenue, is a 100% gluten-free brunch spot right downtown: waffles, pancakes and tacos. Dedicated status is confirmed by Find Me Gluten Free, by Utah Valley (“100% Gluten Free Brunch spot”) and by Happy Celiac. A waffle iron and griddle that cook only gluten-free food: that’s exactly what’s missing elsewhere.
Our tips on site
- Say “I have celiac disease,” not just “gluten-free”: in the US, the second phrase often reads as a chosen diet.
- Watch out for beer elsewhere in town. None of these four addresses is a bar, but not all beer is gluten-free, and a “gluten-removed” beer starts from barley: it isn’t suitable for a celiac.
- Two American association markers: GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) and Beyond Celiac.
- Moving on elsewhere in the US? Our guide to gluten-free travel in the USA covers the rest of the country, and dedicated kitchen or gluten-free menu, the difference explains exactly what a dedicated kitchen guarantees.
