Poznań is a mid-sized city that punches above its weight. Our database counts 6 verified addresses, and all six are fully dedicated — places where wheat flour never enters — of which four are « Menu Bez Glutenu » certified by the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej, the national coeliac association, the same body behind the crossed grain symbol («Przekreślony Kłos») for packaged food. More striking still, the city collects firsts: Poland’s first superfood café, Poznań’s first 100% gluten-free bakery, and the mother house of a gluten-free bakery network that has since spread as far as Kraków. For a city this size, that is remarkable.
What the city holds
The restaurant run by a coeliac
On Macieja Palacza street, in the Grunwald district, Gluten Free (4.7★) has a name that leaves nothing to guesswork. It is a 100% gluten-free restaurant run by an owner who is coeliac herself, with a dedicated kitchen and a dedicated fryer — the fryer being precisely where contamination happens, and the one detail worth hearing about in any restaurant. The menu reworks Polish classics without gluten: placki, kebabs, spaghetti bolognese, and homemade cakes, in the warm atmosphere of a family house. If you want to eat Polish food in Poznań with no second thoughts, this is the address.
Two cafés minutes from the Stary Rynek
On Stanisława Taczaka street, Pochleb x Wartka (4.7★) was born of a marriage between two houses: the speciality coffee bar Wartka and the artisan gluten-free bakery Pochleb. The result is a 100% gluten-free café and bakery where carefully sourced coffees and teas come with fresh bread, breakfasts and desserts — a rare combination, given how often good roasters sit alongside wheat pastries.
On Ratajczaka street, Sorrir Superfood Cafe & Delivery (4.6★, nearly 600 reviews) claims the title of Poland’s first superfood café. Everything is gluten-free, sugar-free, lactose-free and 100% vegan: organic superfood bowls, smoothies, coffees and cakes. The venue is certified by the Polish coeliac association and offers delivery. The two cafés are a few minutes apart on foot, which makes the city centre the obvious base.
WOLNA and BEZ, the two bakeries that led the way
On Piątkowska street, in the north of the city, WOLNA - piekarnia bezglutenowa (4.6★) is the mother house of the WOLNA network, entirely free of gluten, lactose and eggs. It is a Polish benchmark for sourdough breads and pastries built for elimination diets — and the starting point of a network that has since opened elsewhere, notably in Kraków. That triple exclusion is what makes it so valuable when several intolerances stack up.
On Romka Strzałkowskiego street, Piekarnia Bezglutenowa BEZ (4.5★) was Poznań’s first 100% gluten-free bakery: loaves, rolls, baguettes and pastries made without preservatives or baking powder. The workshop and the shop, both on the same street, turn out rice sourdough breads and sweet pastries every day — with no wheat-based product on the premises at all, which is the only guarantee that counts for a strict coeliac.
The cakes of Grunwald
On Limanowskiego street, in the Grunwald district, Fit Cake Poznań (4.6★) is an entirely gluten-free, no-added-sugar patisserie, certified Menu Bez Glutenu: cakes, individual portions, millet bowls, bars, ice cream and desserts, available lactose-free, keto, high-protein, vegan or low FODMAP. The house also makes cakes and dessert buffets to order — useful if you are hosting something locally and a guest is coeliac.
Our tips on the ground
- The phrase to know: « Mam celiakię — czy to zawiera gluten? » On a menu, the word to look for is bezglutenowy.
- Four addresses out of six are certified: the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej audits venues one by one; on packaged food, look for the crossed grain symbol, the Przekreślony Kłos.
- Centre for cafés, Grunwald for meals: Taczaka and Ratajczaka are minutes from the Stary Rynek; Palacza and Limanowskiego call for a tram westward.
- Ask about the fryer: it is the piece of equipment that gives a mixed kitchen away. In Poznań, Gluten Free has a dedicated one — elsewhere, the question is worth asking.
