Tampa is one of the simplest cities in our U.S. database: of the 4 verified addresses, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens, with no wheat flour on the premises. Two fast-casual bowl counters, a bakery-bistro that also rules out most other major allergens, and a corn empanada counter. Three of them sit in the same area, to the south.
The city in numbers
The two bowl counters
Bolay, 402 South Dale Mabry Highway, serves the chain’s 100% gluten-free menu — rice or noodle bowls, protein, fresh vegetables — and has a drive-through. The chain was validated GFFS by the Gluten Intolerance Group in 2018-2020, but no Bolay appears on the public registry in 2026; the entirely gluten-free menu is advertised on the chain’s website and confirmed by local press, and the address by the official website.
Fresh Kitchen, 4616 West Kennedy Boulevard, is an entirely gluten-free fast-casual concept: rice bowls, stir-fries and salads made to order. Many reviews mention the absence of cross-contamination. It’s the most convenient address for a quick meal in the area.
The bakery and the empanadas
HaleLife Bakery & Bistro, 1155 South Dale Mabry Highway, suite 22, is the South Tampa branch of a brand founded by a family affected by celiac disease. More than fifty house-made sweet and savory products, gluten-free and free of dairy, egg, soy, peanuts and tree nuts — coconut excepted. Watch out if you’re looking for the former North Dale Mabry location: it’s closed.
MAXI Artisanal Empanadas, 9000 North Florida Avenue, is the St. Petersburg house’s first Tampa location, run by Cristian Sanchez: crispy corn-based empanadas, slow-cooked proteins and vegan options, on a menu designed with celiacs in mind. This is confirmed by the official website and by local press at the time of opening.
Our tips on site
- Say “I have celiac disease,” not “I’m gluten-free”: in the United States, the second phrase reads as a preference, the first as a medical condition.
- The reference associations are the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) and Beyond Celiac. The GIG issues the country’s most widespread gluten-free certification, and it’s also the body behind the programs aimed at food service.
- South Dale Mabry Highway has two addresses, Bolay at 402 and HaleLife at 1155, with Fresh Kitchen a few minutes away on West Kennedy Boulevard. MAXI, to the north, requires a real trip.
