Pontevedra comes down to 4 verified addresses, 3 of them fully dedicated kitchens. The dedicated trio covers sweets, bread and groceries — a pastry-café, a bakehouse and a grocery shop — all in the center. The fourth address is the only real sit-down table, and it’s also the only mixed kitchen: order there with eyes open.
The city in numbers
The three dedicated addresses in the center
Cafetería Pastelería Sin Gluten - Seara, Rúa Echegaray, is entirely dedicated to gluten-free: pastries, cakes, sandwiches, quiches and empanadas made without a crumb of wheat, with vegan and dairy-free variants on request. The website searasingluten.com highlights the 100% gluten-free approach and staff trained in intolerances; Celisocial, Planomato and TartaPan confirm.
Panadería Daula Bakery, Rúa Rosalía de Castro, run by David and Paula, presents itself as Pontevedra’s first gluten-free bakehouse: breads, pizzas, pastries and empanadas, with vegan and dairy-free options on request. Confirmed by InfoCeliaco and Vive Sin Gluten, with a 4.8/5 Google rating.
O Berce sin gluten, Calle San Román, is the organic, gluten-free grocery store in the center: flours, biscuits, legumes and artisan treats certified gluten-free, sold in bulk. It’s the address to stock up when renting accommodation. It’s listed in the official directory of the Asociación de Celíacos y Sensibles al Gluten, as well as on Vive Sin Gluten and Veganista.es (4.9/5).
The one table, and its caveat
Rincón Mexicano, Rúa Nova de Arriba, is a historic Mexican restaurant in the city whose menu is almost entirely gluten-free, adapted in agreement with the Galician association ACEGA. One exception, and the restaurant states it plainly: the mole enchiladas contain gluten. In other words, the kitchen isn’t dedicated — wheat is present, and cross-contamination is possible. Announce your celiac disease when ordering, and skip the mole. A useful reminder on the product itself: corn tortillas don’t naturally contain gluten, but nothing guarantees they haven’t crossed paths with wheat flour in the same kitchen — that’s for the restaurant to tell you.
Our tips on site
- Say “Soy celíaco” or “Soy celíaca” rather than “sin gluten.” At Rincón Mexicano, the city’s only mixed kitchen, this is the word that triggers real precautions.
- FACE is the national marker, the Spanish federation of celiac associations; in Galicia, it’s ACEGA that lists establishments, and Rincón Mexicano relies on it for its adapted menu.
- Everything is walkable. Seara, O Berce and Rincón Mexicano are in postal code 36002, Daula Bakery in the neighboring 36001: all four addresses fit into one outing.
- Moving on elsewhere in Spain? Our guide to gluten-free travel in Spain covers the rest of the country, and dedicated kitchen or gluten-free menu, the difference explains exactly what separates the first three addresses from the fourth.
