Katowice offers a comfortable profile: of the 4 verified addresses, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens. No mixed table, no “adapted” menu. Three bakeries-patisseries — including the shop of Poland’s largest gluten-free product manufacturer — and a certified crêpe restaurant. The “Menu Bez Glutenu” program of the Polish celiac association comes up in half of our checks.
The city in numbers
The eatery: crêpes, potato pancakes and board games
Placek - naleśniki, placki i planszówki, ulica Dworcowa 8, is the only proper sit-down meal on our list — and the city’s first crêpe and potato-pancake restaurant certified “Menu Bez Glutenu.” The whole menu is gluten-free and free of added sugar, made with amaranth, buckwheat, millet and rice flours: sweet and savory crêpes, Hungarian-style potato pancakes, pizza on a coconut-flour base, in a room where you can play board games. Its name says nothing about gluten-free, but Celiakia.pl, the official site and the Facebook page all agree on an exclusively gluten-free menu.
The three dedicated bakeries
Here you can take whatever you like from the display case without reading a label.
WOLNA - piekarnia bezglutenowa, ulica Plebiscytowa 24, is the Katowice branch of the WOLNA network: a 100% gluten-free artisanal bakery certified “Menu Bez Glutenu,” with breads, pastries, cakes and pierogi. Address and phone number are confirmed by celiakia.pl, menubezglutenu.pl and Google Maps (4.7/5 from 74 reviews).
Fit Cake, ulica Tadeusza Kościuszki 34, in the Śródmieście district, is a café-patisserie fully gluten-free and free of refined sugar: cupcakes, muffins, tarts and breakfasts made with alternative flours. It’s one of the Fit Cake locations officially certified by the Polish celiac association, confirmed by menubezglutenu.pl and by matching address and phone number — a point that matters, since the chain has uncertified branches elsewhere.
Piekarnia Dietetyczna “Bezglutenowa Oaza”, ulica Gnieźnieńska 19, is the shop run by Balviten, Poland’s largest gluten-free product manufacturer. Beyond breads, rolls and pastries, you’ll find pasta, cereal flakes, flour mixes and ready-made sauces, plus homemade baked goods — gluten-free but also available in KETO and PKU versions. Atly, its Facebook page and jembezglutenu.pl confirm the exclusively gluten-free offering. It’s the address for groceries if you’re staying in an apartment.
Our on-site tips
- Say “Mam celiakię.” It’s the phrase that triggers precautions; “bez glutenu” alone often passes for a dietary preference.
- Look for the “Menu Bez Glutenu” mention. It’s the certification program of the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej, the Polish association of people with celiac disease and people on a gluten-free diet; two of our four addresses carry it.
- The certification applies to one location, not a whole brand. The Fit Cake on Kościuszki is certified; other branches of the same chain are not.
