Green Bay has 4 verified addresses, 3 of them fully dedicated kitchens: two bakeries and a healthy-eating spot. At those three, nothing to ask, nothing to negotiate. The fourth deserves a careful read: it claims a gluten-free kitchen, but we found no independent source confirming it, and the doubt doesn’t work in your favor when you’re celiac.
The city in numbers
The two dedicated bakeries
Let It Bake, 114 South Broadway, is a neighborhood bakery-patisserie fully dedicated to gluten-free and dairy-free baking: sourdough breads, cookies, artisanal treats. Its founder, Samantha Lax, started as a home business before opening downtown. Dedicated status is confirmed by Facebook, local press (The Business News, Press Times, WFRV) and the neighborhood site downtowngreenbay.com.
Naturally Delightful — Vegan Bakery, 2331 Velp Avenue, is the city’s go-to organic, gluten-free and vegan bakery: cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and cookies, all made gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free. Atly classifies it as “dedicated gluten-free,” and the official site as well as Yelp describe the same thing.
A safe eatery, and an address to question
Fresh Kind Kitchen, 227 North Washington Street, prepares healthy meals that are 100% gluten-free, made from responsibly sourced ingredients. The business signs “Gluten Free. Always.” on its own site, which explicitly describes an entirely gluten-free kitchen. It’s the full meal on this list.
The Farmacy, 2515 West Mason Street, bets on healthy, customizable cooking, with real room given to gluten-free dishes — the business writes that it has “chosen to be gluten-free” to show that this kind of cooking can be delicious. But the wording stays ambiguous about total exclusivity, no information on cross-contamination is available, and we found no independent source confirming the claim. We have therefore taken the more cautious reading: a possibly mixed kitchen, which doesn’t allow us to conclude the address suits a strict celiac. Announce yourself and ask about the kitchen before ordering.
Our on-site tips
- Say “I have celiac disease,” not just “gluten-free”: in the United States, the latter often passes for a chosen diet.
- At The Farmacy, the decisive question is “Is the kitchen one hundred percent gluten-free, or do you also cook with wheat?” A place that calls itself gluten-free isn’t a dedicated one until you’ve checked.
- Two American association landmarks: GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) and Beyond Celiac.
- Continuing on through the United States? Our guide to gluten-free travel in the USA covers the rest of the country, and dedicated kitchen vs. gluten-free menu, the difference explains precisely what separates the first three addresses from the fourth.
