Gdańsk is a Baltic city whose gluten-free scene was built quickly and well. Our database counts 7 verified addresses, 6 of them fully dedicated — places where wheat flour never enters — and five carry the « Menu Bez Glutenu » label, awarded by the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej, the national coeliac association, which also runs the crossed grain symbol («Przekreślony Kłos») for packaged food. That is the best certification rate of our four Polish cities. A local particularity: the offer is evenly split between restaurants and bakeries, which makes several days here easy to fill without repeating yourself.

The old town address, and the one that led the way

On Piwna street, a few paces from the gabled houses of the historic centre, Hola Tapas (4.8★, more than 6,000 reviews) is by far the busiest address in our Gdańsk selection: a Mexican and Spanish restaurant that doubles as a cocktail bar and craft brewery, certified Menu Bez Glutenu. Tacos, quesadillas, churros and grilled dishes come out of a naturally gluten-free kitchen — corn rather than wheat. One point not to miss, precisely because the house brews: not all the beers served are gluten-free, so ask before ordering.

Further north, on Antoniego Słonimskiego street, U Królika (4.8★, around 950 reviews) is a 100% gluten-free restaurant and, above all, the first venue in Gdańsk to earn the Menu Bez Glutenu certificate. The menu blends European, Middle Eastern and Moroccan influences, and the house bakes its own gluten-free bread, available to take away — a detail worth the journey on its own.

The Italian on aleja Grunwaldzka

Set in the Alchemia complex along aleja Grunwaldzka, Trattoria Sano (4.2★, more than 1,800 reviews) is an entirely gluten-free Italian restaurant: pizza, pasta and family dishes, also available in vegan and vegetarian versions, with a children’s corner on site. Pizza and pasta are exactly the two dishes a coeliac usually gives up ordering; here the whole menu is guaranteed gluten-free, which is what makes the address so valuable for a family meal.

Three bakeries, one of them making pierogi

On Żwirki i Wigury street, Pracownia wypieków (4.5★) is a Menu Bez Glutenu certified artisan bakery: this shop bakes gluten-free bread and nothing else, daily, on a natural rice sourdough starter from in-house flour blends — plus rolls, pizza, pastries, cakes and gluten-free pierogi. Take care: the business runs a second site on Starowiejska street devoted to traditional bread. That is neither the same address nor the same safety — Żwirki i Wigury is the one to aim for.

On Klonowa street, Chleb z natury Piekarnia Bezglutenowa (4.6★) is an exclusively gluten-free bakery built around natural ingredients: amaranth, chia, flaxseed, quinoa, chestnut flour. Few reviews, but high ratings and a fully dedicated production.

Finally, on Popiełuszki street, Kawiarnia Ciacho bez Cukru (4.7★) is a 100% gluten-free, no-added-sugar patisserie: tarts, muffins, éclairs, choux, breads and sourdough pastries that Tri-City regulars rate among the best of their kind, with vegan and keto options.

The one mixed kitchen

On Podmłyńska street, near the old town, Fit Cake + KETO (4.5★) offers, like the rest of the chain, gluten-free and sugar-free cakes and desserts with a strong ketogenic range. But it is the only address in our Gdańsk selection that we do not class as dedicated: the Menu Bez Glutenu certified listings found for Gdańsk correspond to other shops of the brand, not to this one. We have therefore classed it as a gluten-free menu as a precaution, with a cross-contamination risk to check on site. Treat it as an adapted menu, not as a place that is safe by construction.

Our tips on the ground

  • The phrase to know: « Mam celiakię — czy to zawiera gluten? » On a menu, the word to look for is bezglutenowy.
  • Five addresses out of seven are certified: the Polskie Stowarzyszenie Osób z Celiakią i na Diecie Bezglutenowej audits venues one by one; on packaged food, look instead for the crossed grain symbol, the Przekreślony Kłos.
  • Only one dedicated address in the old town: Hola Tapas, on Piwna street. Everything else needs a tram or an SKM ride north.
  • Beware of brands with several shops: Pracownia wypieków and Fit Cake each have Gdańsk addresses with different statuses. The name is not enough — the street is what counts.
