Boston is a comfortable city for a celiac: of the 5 verified addresses, 5 are fully dedicated kitchens. No “adapted” menus, no mixed kitchens. Two of them are neighbouring stalls at the Boston Public Market, and together they cover the whole day — sweet breakfast, juice, quick lunch, afternoon tea, Cal-Mex dinner.

The Boston Public Market: two stalls, zero gluten

Jennifer Lee’s Gourmet Bakery, 100 Hanover Street, is a 100% gluten-free and vegan bakery set in the heart of the indoor market: cupcakes, brownies, donuts, cannoli and sandwiches, free of all nine major allergens. It is one of the rare places where you pick anything from the display without reading a label. Confirmed by Find Me Gluten Free, the National Celiac Association, the Boston Public Market and the official website.

Mother Juice, same address, is a fully gluten-free juice bar that cold-presses organic fruit and vegetables in partnership with local farms. Smoothies, açaí bowls, salads and vegan muffins are all gluten-free. Find Me Gluten Free lists it as a “Dedicated Gluten-Free Juice Shop”, and both the official website and the market’s own page confirm it. The two businesses share an address because they occupy two stalls in the same food hall — they really are two separate businesses.

Three dedicated tables, from lunch to tea

Palmita, 94 Shirley Street in Roxbury, serves fresh Cal-Mex food — house-made bowls and salads — entirely gluten-free and dairy-free since it opened in 2024. The place is casual and open late. Verified via the official website, TheCeliacMD.com and Yelp.

POKE by Love Art, 103 Beverly Street, serves Hawaiian poke and sushi bowls in a fully gluten-free kitchen. The detail that makes all the difference: classic soy sauce contains wheat, and the house replaces it with tamari right across the menu. That is precisely the trap that puts most poke and sushi out of reach elsewhere. Find Me Gluten Free, the National Celiac Association, DineGlutenFree and the official website all confirm a 100% gluten-free kitchen from day one.

Silver Dove Afternoon Tea, 24 Tremont Street, near the Freedom Trail, is an English-style tea room that is entirely gluten-free — and oat-free, which is worth underlining: oats are frequently contaminated with wheat and poorly tolerated by some celiacs even when certified. The seasonal set menu includes sandwiches, savoury canapés, scones and pastries, with the option of accommodating other allergies when you book. Confirmed by Find Me Gluten Free, the National Celiac Association, Boston Magazine and the official website.

Our tips on site

  • Say “I have celiac disease”, rather than “gluten free”. In the United States, the second phrase often passes for a preference; the first triggers precautions.
  • GIG and Beyond Celiac are the two national reference organisations for celiacs in the United States; GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) runs the GFCO certification programme you will come across on packaging. The National Celiac Association, for its part, has validated three of our five addresses.
  • Downtown holds most of it. The Boston Public Market (100 Hanover Street), Silver Dove (24 Tremont Street) and POKE by Love Art (103 Beverly Street) are close to one another; only Palmita, in Roxbury, means a real trip.
  • Travelling on in the United States? Our guide to gluten-free travel in the USA covers the rest of the country, and dedicated kitchen or gluten-free menu, the difference explains exactly what the word “dedicated” covers.
