Appleton, Wisconsin, is a small city with an unusual record: of the 4 verified addresses, 4 are fully dedicated kitchens. No “adapted” menu, no mixed kitchen in our database. Two bakeries and two cafés, two of them sharing the same address on West College Avenue. At these four stops, you order without asking a question.
The city in numbers
West College Avenue: two names, one address
Ann’s Gluten Free Bakery, 3414 West College Avenue, supplies the Fox Valley with entirely gluten-free breads, cakes, muffins and pastries, made in house from natural and organic ingredients. Worth knowing before you go: the bakery now trades under a double sign shared with the adjoining café, at the same address. Find Me Gluten Free, Atly (“entirely gluten-free and vegan”) and customer reviews from 2025-2026 confirm it is trading — this is not a closure, but a joint operation.
Cornflower Cafe is that adjoining café, at the same address and the same phone number: a 100% gluten-free kitchen in a floral-themed room, with sandwiches, house-made soups and a display of scones, muffins, brownies and cookies, rated 4.6/5 by its customers. Its dedicated-kitchen status is confirmed by Find Me Gluten Free, Happy Celiac and several local guides (Atly, Fox Cities). It is the city’s most complete address for lunch.
The two other dedicated addresses
Happy Bellies Bake Shop, 2107 North Richmond Street, is an artisan bakery operating in an entirely gluten-free facility — its own FAQ says so in black and white: “Happy Bellies Bake Shop® is a 100% gluten-free facility”. Pastries and doughnuts, with egg-free, dairy-free and vegan options too. Confirmed by Tripadvisor, Yelp and numerous videos from specialist accounts.
That Healthy Place, 4155 North Galaxy Drive, is the most recent café in the selection: bowls, smoothies and house-made sourdough bread, free of gluten, dairy and seed oils. The Post-Crescent wrote on 29 January 2026: “All food and drinks at That Healthy Place are free of gluten, dairy and seed oils.” Find Me Gluten Free classifies it as a “Dedicated Gluten-Free Cafe”, and the Fox Cities CVB lists it.
Our tips on site
- Say “I have celiac disease”, rather than “I’m gluten-free”: in the United States, the second phrase often passes for a chosen diet. “Is your kitchen 100% gluten-free?” is the question that settles it.
- The national reference points are GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group), which certifies establishments, and Beyond Celiac, an information association for people with celiac disease. None of our four addresses carries GIG certification: their dedicated status rests on their own statements and on consistent specialist sources.
- Count on driving. The four addresses are in three different areas — West College Avenue, North Richmond Street and North Galaxy Drive: only Ann’s and Cornflower Cafe can be done in a single stop, since they share the address.
- Plan for dinner. These four addresses are bakeries and cafés; for an evening meal, you will be leaving the dedicated perimeter.
- Travelling on in the United States? Our guide to gluten-free travel in the USA covers the rest of the country, and dedicated kitchen or gluten-free options, the difference explains why these four addresses are not comparable to a “gluten-free” menu in a mixed kitchen.
