For a celiac, the best map is not the one with the most venues, but the one that distinguishes a fully dedicated kitchen from a menu with a few options. Find Me Gluten Free brings this up through its community’s reviews, national associations through their own inspections; Google Maps does not distinguish it.
Transparency: Nutrixe, which publishes this article, has its own map. It is not ranked below; it is presented separately, after the table.
Method
Survey carried out in October 2026, on each app’s App Store listing and the website of its publisher or association (list at the end of the article). We looked at: whether the kitchen’s real level is shown, whether risks (fryer, oats, flour) are named, where the information comes from, coverage, price, language, and what the publisher declares about personal data. What is not stated publicly is marked “not stated”.
What “gluten-free” means on a map
Three venues can carry the same label:
- a fully dedicated kitchen, with no wheat flour on the premises: the only case where the contact risk is genuinely low;
- a gluten-free menu in a mixed kitchen, with an announced protocol, but a shared worktop, fryer or oven;
- a few options adaptable on request, in a kitchen that changes nothing for you.
For someone who avoids gluten by choice, all three are fine. For a celiac, only the first needs no questions, and the third is a gamble. A map that does not distinguish these three levels gives the illusion of having decided.
1. Find Me Gluten Free
Created in 2010, it is the largest gluten-free review base we know of: the publisher announces more than a million reviews worldwide. Its strength is testimony: celiacs describe their meal, what the waiter knew, the fryer. In big cities, especially in the United States, it has more venues than anyone.
What to know: reviews are testimonies, not inspections; a venue with no recent review tells you nothing; the “Most Celiac Friendly” sort, which brings up dedicated kitchens and places the community considers safe, and the dedicated fryer filter are reserved for Premium ($24.99 a year). The publisher states that this sort hides no venue from the free version, and that no venue is ever presented as “guaranteed”. English only. Alternatives to Find Me Gluten Free.
2. National associations
Their lists are not made of reviews: a venue is on them because the association has trained it and inspects it. It is the most solid source there is in its country.
- AIC (Italy): the “Alimentazione Fuori Casa” network. Venues follow AIC training, commit to following its preparation guidelines and receive at least one full visit a year. Available in AIC Mobile: free basic version, full access for members, or “Welcome” at €3.99 for visitors. Italian and English.
- Coeliac UK (United Kingdom): around 3,000 accredited venues, in the Live Well Gluten Free app, members only.
Limit: each covers its own country, and full access often requires membership.
3. Gluten Free Global
The publisher announces more than 100,000 venues worldwide, “recommended” by its community; its verification method is not described. Subscription at $0.99 a month or $12.99 a year. English only. Useful for discovering names; to decide on a kitchen, you need another source.
4. Google Maps
Everyone’s tool, and for good reasons: opening hours, photos, directions, reviews in bulk, everywhere. Type “gluten-free” and Maps shows the places whose listing or reviews contain the word.
What it doesn’t know: the level. “Very good, gluten-free!” in a review is often written by someone who is not celiac. Maps does not know whether the fryer is shared. Keep it for directions and opening hours.
The table

Nutrixe, our app, is in the last column, outside the ranking. “Tracking”: what the publisher declares on the App Store. Nutrixe does not inspect on site: each venue is checked at its source (website, menu, the venue’s social media, association registers).

Where Nutrixe fits
Nutrixe is a directory, on the website and in the app: more than 3,400 venues in 33 countries, each checked by a person based on the venue’s own communication, its actual opening status and third-party sources (including association certifications when they exist). Each listing shows the real level (dedicated, menu, options), the named risks (oats, shared fryer, flour handled on site, deglutenised beer), the sources and the date. In the app, filters by level, by certification and “no risk reported”.
Free, with no account, no ads, no tracking, in six languages; the subscription adds offline use, travel lists, history and themes.
What it does not do: no community reviews, so no recent first-hand experience; far fewer venues than Find Me Gluten Free or Google Maps, and none in many cities; no opening hours when they could not be checked; a dated check may have aged. It is not a certification: Nutrixe does not inspect kitchens on site the way associations do. Our method · the app.
How to use them, in practice
When travelling, combine: a review map for breadth and stories, the national association’s list when one exists, then Maps for directions. And on site, the question worth more than any app: “Is the kitchen entirely gluten-free, or only some dishes?” The answer, and how it is given, tell you everything.
