Bristol reads quickly and well: of the 5 verified addresses in our database, 5 are fully dedicated kitchens — no wheat flour on the premises, no mixed kitchen to keep an eye on. The city even has the rarest commodity in the United Kingdom for a celiac: a fish and chips with a dedicated fryer. Two of the five addresses share a single location, Wapping Wharf; the other three each mean a separate trip.

The tables: Mexican, fried fish, poke

Condesa, 83 Whiteladies Road, is an entirely gluten-free Mexican restaurant where all the tortillas are corn-based. Reviews note well-trained staff and a menu of small plates and tacos with no risk of cross-contamination. Atly, Tripadvisor and two local guides confirm it.

Fisk & Frite, 78 Mina Road in St Werburgh’s, is the address that justifies the detour: a 100% gluten-free fish and chips, with a dedicated fryer. Battered fish, fried onions and chips can therefore be ordered without the question that usually weighs this dish down. Vegan, vegetarian and halal-friendly options. Status verified through the official website and consistent Tripadvisor reviews.

LOKI POKÉ — Wapping Wharf, Museum Street, serves 100% gluten-free and lactose-free build-your-own poke bowls from a container at the CARGO site, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. An important point for poke: the house works with tamari and not with classic soy sauce, which contains wheat.

The sweet side: bakery and pancakes

Creamberry Artisan, 90 West Street in Old Market, is Bristol’s first 100% gluten-free bakery, founded by Özlem and Volkan. Recipes from several countries, reworked without gluten and almost without lactose, sold on site and delivered across Bristol, Bath and the whole United Kingdom.

The Pancake Man, Museum Street at Wapping Wharf, serves 100% gluten-free and lactose-free pancakes, waffles and crêpes, sweet and savoury. Born on the local markets before opening a permanent address in 2025, it is closely followed by the city’s celiac community. It is next door to LOKI POKÉ: meal and dessert in the same place.

Our tips on site

  • Say “I have coeliac disease”, not “I’m gluten-free”. The second passes for a chosen diet; the first triggers precautions. Then: “Is the kitchen fully dedicated?”
  • Coeliac UK is the national association. It accredits establishments across the country: that is the marker to look for beyond our five addresses, where the question does not arise.
  • Wapping Wharf brings two addresses together. LOKI POKÉ and The Pancake Man are both on Museum Street; the other three are each in a different area.
  • Travelling beyond Bristol? Our guide to gluten-free travel in the UK covers the rest of the country.
